St. Mary Magdalene’s Confirmation preparation program is designed to help our young people come to a deeper understanding of how the Holy Spirit works in their lives and in the life of the Church.
Formation for the Sacrament of Confirmation begins in February of the teen’s 9th grade year, with the celebration of the Sacrament in January of the 10th grade year. The formation process is also open to those in 10th and 11th grade who have not yet been confirmed.
Attendance in our regular Faith Formation program (weekly Sunday evening youth group) is required as part of the Confirmation preparation process, beginning in the fall prior to the start of Confirmation formation—i.e., a teen who wishes to begin Confirmation in February of 9th grade must begin attending regular formation sessions in September of their 9th grade year.
The Archdiocese of Atlanta requires Confirmation Candidates to participate in parish faith formation programs for TWO years prior to reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. One of these years takes place during the year of formation. The other year can be from the candidate’s middle school faith formation (regularly attending Faith Formation during 6th, 7th, or 8th grade fulfills this requirement).
Families with teens eligible to begin the Confirmation preparation process will receive an introductory letter and registration form approximately two months before preparation begins. If you have not received a letter by February 1 of the year you wish to start formation and you believe your child is eligible, please contact Faith Formation staff.
